DIATU Opt-In/Opt-Out
Jan. 2nd, 2020 12:15 pmYuume is a Fandom OC with blood ties to an existing canon character in the YuGioh! DM series; given the reputations fandom OCs of this type often carry, this Opt-In/Opt-Out post exists for those who would prefer not to interact with Yuume at all- or for those who would instead like to check on certain details of concern before initiating any threads. Yuume herself is relatively introverted as a person, so there should be no need to worry about whether such avoidance is IC- it very much can be, and without any need for in-character upset!
With that in mind, please leave a comment below if you would prefer to have no threads with Yuume, OR if you would like to discuss certain matters to keep out of threads involving her.

Character Name: YuumeKaiba Souryuu
Series: Yu-Gi-Oh! (Original Series; 'Reiyoku')
Tell Me About Them “Personality”:
- Composed; Yuume outwardly tends to have a fairly composed appearance, keeping her expression calm and even blank. Depending on one's perspective this can even make her seem cold to others, though less so in recent times- there is more of a 'warmth' to her eyes now.
- Passionate; While skilled at holding her composure when it comes to the things Yuume carries close to the heart, her voice and manner overflow with emotion. Yuume is excitable and absolutely animated when it comes to the topic of ancient history for example, and even with simple things such as sweet foods, more varied tone can be heard in her voice. This passion carries over to anger as well- when injustice stands before her, or when another seems to be doing something that would harm themselves, Yuume's voice grows cold and firm, commanding attention.
- Kind; Yuume at heart is fairly ultruistic, even to the detriment of herself. While capable of using logic to determine a situation unwinnable, it takes an extra level of threat to convince her that something is truly hopeless if even a stranger is in danger, let alone someone she cares for. Beyond this, she tends to find it her duty to offer words of comfort and advice to those she knows more personally- and if she were not too polite to 'intrude' on a stranger, would very likely do the same for them as well.
- Polite; While capable of snark and insult with regard to those who could be called an 'enemy', Yuume typically retains a polite attitude, apologizing when she feels she's overstepped her bounds with someone, and going out of her way to offer others the 'right of way' in most situations (short of an argument where the other is very clearly wrong on a topic she has strong feelings for).
- Self-denying/Self-deprecating; Unfortunately, Yuume carries a lot of bitterness and loathing for herself, even after a few years of recovery. While slowly coming to terms with events in her past, she is still quick to put herself down despite phenomenal skill, and even despite actively acknowledging that skill for an important task. She will repeatedly put the importance of others above herself, repeatedly put her own life at risk if she feels it will benefit another's, and ultimately appears to truly believe that when push comes to shove, someone's life will likely be better without her. It is not to the point where she doesn't wish to get involved with anyone should they desire it- but rather that if it is brought up, she will be more inclined to believe it best she leave. For Yuume, there is seemingly no love for her own self- only for those around her, leading to excessive self-sacrifice. This same matter is what contributes to her quiet, and composed appearance- it is only when briefly lost in the passions of her hobbies that she can be rid of the shadow of her own self-loathing.
- Intelligent/Adaptive; A required trait as a 'Doctor', Yuume is first of all incredibly quick to pick up new skills and information. She's able to catch up with classes at such a speed that even after many weeks of skipping classes as a child, she successfully passes the entry exams of highschool without missing a year. Furthermore, she's managing university classes full-time with high marks...alongside her job. As a Doctor, to 'lose' within someone's soul means the death of herself (unimportant in her eyes) and the client (highly important)- because the region reflects the identity of a person, it is incredibly changable, and Yuume's ability to judge a situation and react accordingly is second to none. With impressive calm that admittedly comes in part because of a lack of self-care, Yuume is able to look over a situation before her, and appropriately pick the move to finish a match at any cost...other than her client's, and those around her, of course.

Possessions:
> 'Duel Glove' - Functionally it's meant to be a More Than Real dueling device; for the sake of Fallers though, something broke when Bewear caught her, so it's lost the function to enter soul rooms for now! She can't do more than look over her card library when it comes to dueling either, as it's incompatible with the surroundings and technology. Its 'tablet' functions remain however; this makes it very much like a piece of StarkTech in operation, giving access to things like phone, notepad, calendar, clock, photos, and so on so forth. (Small Item)
> Change of Clothing (Small x 2)
> Glowstick Pack (Small Item)
> Laptop - A standard laptop. While the size of a macbook, they're apparently more powerful by her time. (Small Item)
> 'Her Shadow' - Technically not in the backpack, but hey. 'The Raven' is Yuume's shadow; she can draw upon his power to wear as an armor, entering the shadows and launching herself or moving through them with great speed. The Raven himself never makes any appearance, and seems to not intend to either; if he did, he would be very stiff and quiet indeed.
(And beyond that she also gets those 6 Pokeballs and a Recovery Kit full of Berries and Potions.)

REIYOKU GLOSSARY
Jul. 15th, 2019 11:39 pm Reiyoku is a setting which borrows upon the idea of the Ka and Ka Battle (and by extension, Shadow Game). Each person is born with a shadow-a monster, a Ka-bound to their soul. This monster does not typically awaken or make itself known until certain conditions are met, but these conditions rise in number until a large portion of the world population has one, in the series.
Shadows manifest as an armor and a field spell (called a 'Field Monster', and summonable under certain conditions) during a duel-which is restricted to a field as cast by the 'Duel Gloves' formed by KaibaCorp. These gloves lessen damage in a battle, and allow cards to summon their counterparts, or cast magic, from the Shadow's Realms-a duel therefore combines the thrill of true combat as fought wearing Armor, with the strategy of the cards. Any lasting injury or damage to the surroundings are in addition reversed completely with the end of a battle-meaning that a monster does not need to necessarily hold back their own power.
In Reiyoku however, people have learned to Hack these gloves, for the sake of stealing (or even killing- though stealing is more profitable) shadows-this results in victims entering a coma-like state where they are frozen in time, known as a 'Time-Lock'.
The only cure for this is to replace the Shadow, which is where Doctors enter.
A Doctor is someone with a unique glove created to access another's Soul Room- or 'Dream'. A Dream, typically, isn't entirely open to the Shadow's Realm; however when a shadow is removed, a gateway is forced into a gaping hole, allowing the realm to take over. Doctors enter these soul rooms to find their way through the realm until they find a shadow compatible enough with the victim. Once the shadow is connected to the soul, the victim can awaken.
A shadow removed from its bond is known as a Renegade Shadow, or Sealed Shadow-however, the term primarily applies to shadows farmed directly from the realms as well. More mundane doctors are able to, with permission, access those whose minds are yet awake, carefully wandering through until they find the closest point of connection, and from there entering the realm to bring back shadows at random. This allows them to be tied to various objects, so that those without a woken shadow of their own can participate in duels.
Alongside Doctors exist Officers-bringing in the element of the Shadow Game. An Officer is the more brutal counterpart to the Doctor; they exist to hunt down those who would steal or kill shadows, and using their gloves are able to force barriers between shadows and their partners. This locks victims in a semi-comatose state, not quite a time-lock, forcing the criminal to suffer a determined amount of time in waking silence without tiring.
While the primary form of Dueling is 'Shadow Battles', other remnants of Solid Vision Duels yet remain, as well as AR. Solid Vision is less popular, as the devices are prone to becoming lethal with exposure to Shadows; as the output cannot be controlled, Solid Vision is thus heavily regulated, and typically used only for children's tournaments where participants of all sides have no shadow. It can additionally be used in small amounts without trouble-however, these limitations combined have forced Action Duels almost entirely out of existence.
AR is immune to the effects of Shadows, however, and is thus still popular in various regions of the world. Its popularity varies, due to the limitations of requiring an AR Lens to witness however, leading it to become something considered a 'traditionalist sport' (for those who prefer Just The Cards).
Offshoots of Shadow Battles which depend on the monsters involved also exist; examples include Ceremonial, where duelists upon either side 'fight' until one or the other succeeds in a particular summon.

Despite the above, Action Duels in fact make a return throughout Reiyoku through the efforts of a determined prodigy-he finds a way to filter Solid Vision until it becomes powered by the Realm itself, making the fields malleable, and action cards possible, without the entire battle suffering the effects of old Solid Vision Duels. The result is the first 'Action Shadow Battle', which ushers in a more entertainment based method of dueling.
