Character Information

Name: Yuume Kaiba Souryuu
Canon: YGO Franchise Original Fic- 'Reiyoku'
Canon Point: Reiyoku S3 End
OU/AU/CRAU/OC: AU-OC
Age: 23

World Information: A Glossary as well as a Timeline is here. Reiyoku over all is largely unpublished (though oddly, an 'AU' of it IS published haha), with only a few beginning bits fully written. Most of it is in notes, in progress, etc etc.

Be advised that due to the nature of the AU blending all series between DM and ARC-V, there are hints toward spoilers in all five series, in particular 5Ds, Zexal, and Arc-V.

Personal History: A write up, all the way to her current canon point.

Personality: Yuume is a woman who has spent a number of years of her life carving a mask- one she hasn't even properly realized she's been wearing until perhaps recently (if she has at all). It's a consequence of the direction life took for her in her teenage years. First in dedicating herself entirely to the purpose of saving a number of people, and then to having that dedicated task torn cruely from her hands. She had nothing left Except her work- nothing left except the ability to save others, except for simply 'moving' forward.

In having nothing left, her calm and even blank expression came quite naturally. While in recent times opening up has brought more 'warmth' to her eyes, Yuume is over all an extremely composed individual- doing well to hold her tone and tongue in many situations, to the point she may even appear cold to others. Yet there is a passion to Yuume, in a curious seeming dichotomy- a passion that exists because at her heart she is in fact a passionate individual.

That she's become victim to depression does not change that. When it comes to things close to her heart, Yuume's voice and manner absolutely overflow with emotion- matters such as sweets, or her true passion of mythology and ancient history bring a cheerful and varied tone up until the point where she feels she's wasted anyone's time, and this passion can carry to anger as well. If there is injustice before her, if one before her seems ready to do something that would harm themselves, her voice becomes cold in a manner of clear firmness, commanding attention- far from the empty and even soft words she would otherwise carry. It can even make her reactive, depending on- violent, grabbing fellows by the shirt, throwing singular punches, when certain lines have been crossed too far.

Yuume is a good person, after all. She is kind at heart, even ultruistic, though unfortunately to the detriment of herself. In her own eyes, most others have worth beyond her- while she's never taken this to such an extreme that she would blind herself to obvious cruelty, it ultimately takes an extra level of threat to convince her that something is truly hopeless or impossible if a stranger, let alone someone close, is in danger- or even if someone is a danger themselves. While she can use logic to determine a situation unwinnable or threatening, those feelings can ultimately stand in the way of it, and she tends to find it her duty even to offer words of comfort and advice to those she's familiar with.

For a stranger, or at least a stranger closer to her age, she's too polite for that. While it's easier to intrude on the conversations of children, and she is ultimately capable of astounding levels of snark and insult toward those considered an 'enemy', Yuume typically retains a rather polite attitude. She apologizes deeply when she feels she's overstepped her bounds with someone, going out of her way to even offer others the 'right of way' in most situations- great exception being an argument where the other is quite clearly wrong in a matter she feels passionately for.

Ultimately as implied above however, Yuume carries a great deal of bitterness and self-loathing within herself; her selfworth absolutely tanking compared to her care for others. While slowly coming to terms with guilt filled events of the past, she is still quick to put herself down despite phenomenal skill, even in the same breath as acknowledging those skills for key tasks. She will repeatedly put the importance of others above herself, put her own life at risk if it could benefit anothers, and ultimately appears to truly believe that when push must come to shove, someone's life may well be better without hers.

While it is far from the point where she would wish to avoid being involved with anyone who extends a hand out to her, it is ultimately still a matter of feeling that her loved ones could be better off if she leaves. For Yuume, there seems to be almost no love for herself, only those around her- leading to excessive self-sacrifice, even for strangers. It contributes to that quiet, composed appearance that so becomes lost during moments of passions, the few times she can be even somewhat rid of that shadow of self-loathing.

Accompanying all of this, Yuume is in the end a very intelligent and adaptive woman- a required trait as a 'Doctor'. She's incredibly quick to pick up new skills and information. She's able to catch up with classes at such a speed that even after many weeks of skipping classes as a child, she successfully passes the entry exams of highschool without missing a year. Furthermore, she's managing university classes full-time with high marks...alongside her job. As a Doctor, to 'lose' within someone's soul means the death of herself (unimportant in her eyes) and the client (highly important)- because the region reflects the identity of a person, it is incredibly changable, and Yuume's ability to judge a situation and react accordingly is second to none. With impressive calm that admittedly comes in part because of a lack of self-care, Yuume is able to look over a situation before her, and appropriately pick the move to finish a match at any cost...other than her client's, and those around her, of course.

Truly, in the end, the person she has become...is a passionate one, a kind one, however shrouded with the weight of self-imposed duty.

Key themes: Yuume's greatest theme throughout the course of her story, start to finish, is self-care. There is a theme of allowing oneself to connect to others not to just help Them, but to Be Helped. To allow others to see your weakness, and help, rather than simply swallowing it back to help them. Opening up and accepting that one cannot always be the strongest, one cannot always be the 'helper'.

One needs to have love for themselves.

Main Motivation: ?????? At present, her primary motivation is to simply do what she does best- help. Help her clients, so they can walk in the world of the living again. Help her friends, as they each face their own crises.

(Arguably though, her trouble is finding a motivation that's for Her)

Skills:
> Intelligent, Observational; aside from in general being a strong student in the middle of a degree in archaeology and history, Yuume is required to carry a certain level of care for her job which absolutely hinge on these traits. As such, she's quite good at problem solving, and to an added degree, recognizing symbolism- no soul is the same, and by the non-interactive nature one is meant to take while delving into one, she's had to learn to pick out the meanings of surroundings quickly. (Though she may jump to the metaphorical in certain scenarios as a result)

Dueling prowess is technically in here of course, but as she puts it, 'Anyone with a logical brain could be good at that'.

> Physically she's impressively strong, and looks it. It was joked in another game that she could have struck a boulder in two- while this isn't true outside of her armor, her strength increses significantly with it on, and as a case in point, her armored self swings a large blade almost as long as she is (and as wide as two arms) with one hand, for long periods of time. As it stands, she would be considered stronger than the norm by far outside of armor.

> Aside from being very physically strong she is physically flexible, and agile- much of her work requires her to be able to move, to fight properly, and as such she's trained for it. She's trained in hand to hand combat, as well as with the sword, and as per the rules of her society and work much of that training is conducted outside of armor as well as in.

> Shadowmelting/Shadow 'Magic' - these are loose terms, and even Yuume doesn't really use them, but for the sake of simplicity here they are. While in armor- and indeed techincally while out though she tends to draw the armor up out of habit first anyway- Yuume can literally melt into the shadows and travel at impressive speeds that way. She refers to the insides of the shadows as a void- an empty expansive ocean that she can dive deep within to gain momentum before launching out of. She uses this often for the sake of fights, practically leaping 'pool to pool' in some battles even.

As far as 'shadow magic', it's simply using weaponized, literal 'shadow' and 'darkness'. For the purposes of other players it should be noted that Darkness here is a pure essence- it's neither 'good', nor 'evil', but rather is, so it shouldn't be likened to things such as blight!

> Trickster Perks; as Yuume's shadow is one of the Tricksters, there's certain perks she received, namely the ability to pull upon her armor and access the related abilities without activating a glove field- or starting a duel, for that matter. She is also naturally sensitive to magic involving darkness, be it good or bad.

Item: Her Glove; for the sake of things, Yuume will note upon arrival that it seems to be malfunctioning slightly.

The Glove is the standard dueling object of her day- her deck is digitally loaded (making it entirely incompatible with the disks of other YGO casts), and when activated coats the area in a field of approximately 50ft in diameter. This field under typical circumstances would allow for any damage sustained to the surroundings and person to be reversed, but this feature is going 'in and out'. While a field is in effect, if the glove is in 'training mode', she can summon cards without the existence of a duel.

Notable, anything summoned via the glove is 'Real'- summoned directly from the realm, and capable of causing harm. (This is the reason for the strong ability to Reverse damage built into it)

As a secondary trait, the Glove is, as her primary Doctor tool, capable of entering the soul rooms- the minds- of others. Yuume herself is a professional, and does not for that matter view herself as a medical caregiver, so the chances of this coming into play are slim. Important details should be noted in the glossary, but over all she will be very hesitant to make use of the glove as a tool of checking in on someone who may need looking at from the 'inside-out' of their soul, particularly due to various world differences potentially making things 'fuzzy'.

Sample: Thread with Asajj + Thread with Alexis & Rei

Bonus Thread from Fallers TDM, and a thread from early in that game (her characterization would be about the same)

Icons in the Fallers Threads are off, as between then and now I changed them out so it's frozen on default for a number of tags...

Notes: I leave it in mod hands if Yuume's name shows up as 'Kaiba'- I've already talked with the people who would be affected by this (in fact, I ran her in a game with Zoki's Seto, and both of us were quite excited when appability turned out to be a thing here), so it shouldn't cause any ooc issue.

Beyond that, I'm well practiced in keeping two not-quite-castmates separate. Yuume herself will simply go out of her way to avoid the cast where possible to prevent things from growing awkward, and on the other end, Jonouchi was previously in that same game I once ran Yuume- so he himself would Also avoid her to keep things from getting weird in the 'I knew OF you??' way.
